New Thank You Protocol

Do you find yourself scratching your head wondering, "Did my Known SP post a thank you to the board?" Our thread can get large and messy, which is why a new protocol for thanking your Unknown SP has come about. It also should make my coordinating a little easier, too LOL!

First, send a thank you e-mail to your Unknown SP when you receive a package from them. This means that Known SPs should provide their anonymous e-mail account to their receiving pal. In order to save sending the same message twice, use the "Cc" feature on your e-mail to send a copy to me. That way I'll know, too, that the package was received and a thank you was sent.

Second, you post a thank you to the forum, using the original registration thread. Within your post you can link us to your blog or the group's blog.

The group blog is primarily for those who don't have their own blog, but it's also a great place to post ideas, thoughts, suggestions—anything on topic of secret pals—to share with the group.

This final package from Yammy just arrived! The slippers are so cool and fit well. Just right for cooler evenings but I'm wearing them now! The blue basket has a lovely blue candle, some fun costume jewellery, Turtles nut chocolates, Hill brothers Double Mocha Cappucino and 2 bottles of liqid potpourri in fragrances Seascape and Mulberry. Rescue Rangers

I received a message from Jamie with a great idea for the Autumn round and future rounds of the Secret Pals. Her idea is to create a group of Rescue Rangers, a voluntary list of Secret Pals who will rescue a stranded pal at the end of the round.

By registering, you will be put on a list in case someone is stranded. You will put together a package at the start of the round with a value between $5 and $10. If you are notified with a Rescue Assignment, all you need to do is pop the package in the mail. If not, hang on to that package for a future day.

Since this is voluntary, and a swap extra, if you register but later cannot send out a Rescue Package, it will not result in being inducted into the Hall of Shame.

Please only register if you sincerely wish to help out and know that you will be able to put together a rescue package and mail it when called upon for a Rescue Assignment.

To register, fill out this simple form to become a Rescue Ranger!

Goodness, I had been waiting ALL week to get an email from my SP to see how she liked her Reveal, and come to find out she posted HERE way back on Tuesday that she received it Monday! Glad you liked it, Donna! It was fun to be your SP and to give you that final reveal. I had to give you that Tweety sleeper for the little baby you're dreaming of. Dreams do come true so you have to live as if you expect that! :)

To our hostess, I was going to see about editing the template so our right column over there would pull back up to the top. Seems the "Poll" is too wide and therefore being pushed down to the bottom of the blog. If you'll reduce the number on the margins of that poll, it should shift back up to the top. Let me know if you need help with that and I'll be happy to help! :)

My reveal package

I just wanted to say THANK YOU to my secret pal Karla (tcsgirl). I got your reveal package yesterday and my goodness! So many wonderful things were there! I have to take a pic of it, but what I remember are as follows:

A super soft skein of yarn
A crossword puzzle book (thank you so much, I just finished my last one)
A little purse-sized organizer
Some mints
and the thing that really stood out to me was a wrapped package that had a note which read "for your future."

I was a little baby's jumper with a Tweety Bird on the front. I was instantly in tears and my hubby who usually only grunts when I'm opening my packages started "ooohing and ahhhing" all over it. Thank you so much! Now we just have to pray for a little baby that can wear it!

My summer secret pal is no longer so secret thanks to this reveal package sent by GA_Rebel of Crochet Adventures. She's been an awesome secret pal. She was great about keeping in contact and her packages always made me happy.

Well, sort of a volunteer !

I'm looking for someone who wouldn't mind being assigned to me as their Known Pal for the Autumn Round. In other words the round wouldn't be very secretive, but we could still have a lot of fun .

If you are interested in being the volunteer needed send me a message expressing your interest. Be sure to send your message no later than July 15th, the end of the swap.

Sorry, but this won't automatically reserve you a spot in the Autumn Round. (I know, I am terribly mean )

If more than one person wishes to volunteer I'll select by random drawing who gets the position. It feels strange picking someone who will basically be sending stuff to me, so I'm passing the decision on to you, and then letting randomness decide if needed.

It's easier for me to get this figured out now than to wait and attempt to figure it out during sign-ups and then during matching for assignments.

for the package. you just send the cap and scarf at the right time. hopefully i'll be leaving for a training in South Korea. i just got my package today as i check out from the hospital to accompany my mother in her operation.

here are the other great items that my SP sent me:

Traci is my Secret Pal Part Two!!!

Okay, allow me to continue! You thought I was kidding when I said there was alot of stuff in this package didn't you.

To show you just how thoughtful Traci is, she didn't just think of me, she remembered Nicky and The Girls (my dog and two cats). Nicky got two chewy bones, his own magnet and a dog tag that's engraved with "The King" (too cute, too cute!) and the Girls each got their own catnip mousie and a magnet too!

This is the real treat though, she made me this gorgeous shawl! She posted a picture of it on the 'Ville modelled by two of her beautiful daughters and I'm glad she did, try as I might I couldn't get a good picture, I was losing daylight fast! The only word I can think of to describe this shawl is "gossamer", it is so light and airy!!! Soooo soft, truly! And such a lovely shade of lilac too!

Traci, you really are the best! I can't thank you enough, you have made this a real joy for me. I really hope that you and I can keep in touch and I know I'll never forget this swap, you definitely made it memorable!

I got my Secret Pal reveal gift today from TRACI!!! There were so many things in this package I couldn't fit them all in one picture! She sent me bunches of yarn in lovely purples, I'm going to make an afghan out of the Bernat and maybe a face cloth out of the Peaches & Cream cotton. There were 22 pattern sheets for everything from scarves to sandals, she included a binder for them and the little re-inforcing rings for hole punches! There were two pattern booklets, one for afghans and one for handbags and a new crochet hook too!

In this set of pictures below, you can see the lovely bath pouf and footie scrubbie/pumice brush. There's some wonderful lotion and a great smelling candle too. The "I love Michigan" cup is going to remind me of her everytime I use it, and you see that little jar at the bottom of the first picture? That's HOMEMADE STRAWBERRY JAM!!! Woot!! In the second picture here there are some quilters quarters, perfect for the borders on the wall quilt I'm making, a cute little sewing kit to carry in my purse, a pompom maker (neat!) A really pretty picture frame, and notecards with my initial on them. She sent a purple sharpie pen and some sticky notes in the shape of my initial too!

Hmm, I think I'm only allowed four pictures in a post! That means I'll just have to show you the rest in my second post.

Another Package

I got another package from my Secret Pal on Friday last week. I would have posted the photo of all the goodies she sent me sooner if I wasn't getting ready to go camping last weekend.

I got two different kinds of lotions, a few free patterns that look fun to give a try, a scrap afghan pattern book, a shawl pattern book, crystalite hooks (this was great because I have the larger ones but not the smaller ones)

As you can see I have already put the yarn holder to use. I am making a washcloth with some Bernat Cotton Tots.

I'm in awe, I never expected to get this much! And my SP says she still has her reveal package to go! What can I say she has gone above and beyond what I would have thought I would get.

The latest package (with another of those great handwritten letters) had 6 skeins of yummy PURPLE mohair blend yarn, along with a shawl pattern book to make something beautiful. The patterns in it are very unique and look like fun to crochet. There's bathtea, some more of that homemade soap that I just adore, and some Olay body lotion. More Riesens YAY! She also made me some really cute slippers that she thought were goofy. My dogs love the pom poms when I walk across the floor, they think it's a new dog toy. I of course put them on immediately.
She also included a pattern book of slippers that had some really cool ones in it and another pattern book with wearables and a leaflet of afgans.

All I can say is WOW!!!

Since the voting poll ended in a tie: 12 people wanted the Autumn theme and another 12 didn't want a theme at all, decisions, decisions, decisions.

Here's what I'll do. I will add a simple yes/no question on the new & improved short sign-up form asking you if you want to participate in the Autumn theme. If you say yes, you'll be matched with someone else who wants to partake in theme. If you say no, then you'll be matched with others who don't want to be thematic.

Theme Idea

I was thinking to make the Autumn Round of Secret Pals more interesting that a theme could be applied. I'd appreciate your vote to help decide which theme you are most interested in, if you would like a theme at all.

I'd also like your comments if the theme should be voluntary or mandatory.

In order for a theme to apply, I'd like to have at least 25 votes cast. If there are fewer than 25 then a theme will not apply to the round.

Brief descriptions about some of the proposed themes:

Autumn: Pretty self-explanatory

Unbirthdays: From Alice in Wonderland in which any day that is not your birthday is your Unbirthday! Ways in which to send items for this theme would be to send a birthday card, wrap stuff in birthday gift wrap, and basically pretend it is your Known SP's birthday.

Favorite Animal: Once you know what your Known SP's favorite animal is, then try to make a majority of your gifts to them be of that animal, maybe even crocheting them a critter or making them a filet.

Halloween: See description for Autumn

My Secret Pal Did It Again!

Look at all this stuff! Isn't it great! There's sugar-free candy (great 'cause I'm trying to diet!), chewing gum, some yummy lip balm, Crystal Light On the Go packets, some really cool purple floofy flip flops, a handmade washcloth, a recipe book for blender drinks and some yarn. The yarn is really neat because I was two skeins short of dyelot 29338 for a whirlwind afghan I wanted to make and the dyelots she sent me match exactly!! That's kind of spooky if you think about it.

My secret pal: Lonestranger has been just the best, she emails and sends me cards frequently. She seems to be a psychic as far as knowing what I would not just 'like' but stuff that I am just bonkers over. Thanks so much Lonestranger!

I was so suprised by the birthday package I really didn't expect much more...
Lonestranger has been very thoughtful and generous.
But I must admit, my very favorite part of the package was a beautifully worded hand written letter telling me about the things she included, and just so she knows: Nope, I'm not sick of Riesens yet LOL
The hand dyed wool is just beyond cool and I don't know what she used on it but it smells really good and not fruity at all! The Adrienne Vittadini is the most gorgeous plum and totally scrumptious. The pattern books are just too cool, I adore the 'old' patterns the most.

My SP is awesome! She really made my day yesterday. Oh, who am I kidding, she made my whole month! I have never felt so spoiled in all my life! I am loving this swap. Thank you so much SP for all the great goodies! I will definitely be trying the tea and bodywash/lotion today. The dishcloths have already taken their rightful place in the kitchen drawer, and I have already picked an afghan out for a future project from Mosaic Afghans. I have been wanting this book for some time now! The Lulu yarn is so soft, and yes, I know I can use it for a friend's baby due in a few months! I love the leaflets! I love the towel holder and daisy buttons! Thank you for the Elmo book, Connor will love it. But I would have to say my favorite thing is the Elmo hat...it is too cute for words. You are too good to me, SP, and so creative too! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Help Test the New Sign-Up Form

I've been working to create a (hopefully) easier sign-up process and I need a few volunteers to test it out.

What I've done is create a two part system. Part One is a simple sign-up form. Part Two is the Secret Pal Questionnaire. If you are a returning participant who already has a questionnaire on file, you only need to complete Part One!

And, I've been able to create an automated response sent to you via e-mail. That way I can speed up checking eligibility and focus on creating the participant list.

What a wonderful surprise today on my doorstep! My secret Pal sent me a just absolutely PERFECT package. Everything in it is ME. She knows me about as well as I do heehee!

Look at this great bounty!
In my perfect package was 2 skeins of my favorite yarn, Lion's Brand Homespun, a book by Debbie Macomber...(I've really wanted to read her, I don't know HOW she knew!)...a pattern for a poncho to use with that lovely Homespun, Beautiful handmade beaded dangly earrings...two sets!, Yummy lemon body lotion and scrumptious smelling Morning Glory body spray!

Last, but CERTAINLY not least (and my personal favorite!) was a handmade Crochet Kit/Carrying Case (how perfect !) WITH a complete set of hooks, a yarn needle AND homemade, beautiful stitch markers! Oh my goodness, I am overwhelmed! I DO for sure have the best Secret Pal, she is spoiling me ROTTEN and I am LOVING it :-)

I got an amazing package in the mail today from my secret pal! As always, there was a cute little cow on the mailing label. And the pictures don't do this scarf justice. It is the softest, most luxurious thing you have ever seen! It is simply gorgeous! So what if it was 80 degrees yesterday? I wore it all evening, annoying my sons as I constantly struck a pose for them in my stunning scarf!

My secret pal has been so thoughtful and sweet...and generous! I've received my second package already. It contained lots of fancy tazo tea, the Leasure Arts Pineapple Doilies leaflet, lavender fragrance beads (because she knows lavender is my favorite!), a mini photo album, a mini cross stitch kit, and a eyore fluffy pen. What a great package to come home to!

Your friendly SP Coordinator will be out of town from Tuesday, June 6th, until Sunday, June 11th!

The reason being that I have classes to attend for my graduate program. The program meets at a hotel for 5 days. It's rather non-traditional, but a lot of fun and it's educational, too!

Anyhow, though I have access to a laptop to take, the hotel charges $10 a day to connect to their wi-fi and I don't know of any place that has a free wi-fi connection to use.

My DH assures me that he'll check my e-mail periodically and relay to me any pertinent messages that I should be aware of. I should be able to convince him to send out a reply if necessary.

You're all doing such a great job that I don't think my absence will be noticed too much ! I'll miss not being able to check in each day, but I'll be able to catch up once I return.

All I can say is WOW! I went to check the mail today and found all this! She sent me a pattern for a poncho, sewing tips for fun fur, quilt patterns and 3 fat quarters to get me started on a wall quilt.

I can't tell you guys just how neat this is, to have someone that I've never met face to face find it in their heart to be so kind to me, it brings tears to my eyes, it truly does. Ima Secret, whoever you are, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

All I can say is WOW! My lone stranger pal has really out done herself! My birthday is on Saturday and I just got the NICEST package full of goodies in the mail.

There's Size 30 thread (I've really wanted to try smaller thread), a set of thread hooks (I needed hooks to try smaller thread), I needed bath goodies and perfume (White Musk that smells great on me) and there's a bar of what looks like homemade soap (that smells absolutely wonderful), there's my very favorite Reisen candys (which I opened and dug into already), there were fun birthday goodies of balloons that stand by themselves and blow outs (ha! we are having another couple join us this weekend, you KNOW we are gonna use those out camping and scare all the animals)and she put this all in a beautiful basket with a handmade washcloth.

I feel so 50's suburban housewifeish, I've never seen a purple daisy before. It's kind of like the time we had a 2yo vistor at our house and I asked if she wanted strawberry or grape jelly on her sandwich. Her mother told me she only eats blackberry jelly. I'm beginning to feel like I need to go find a big skirt and some crinolines to go underneath it.

I just have to thank my secret pal! This has been a rough week for me going through Carpal Tunnel Surgery and not being able to crochet. When I got home from work last night there was a Get Well Card waiting for me from my secret pal with a package of wildflower seeds in it!

We will be moving the beginning of July so we won't be able to plant them where we are now, but my hubby (who's got the green thumb!) will plant them once we move into our new place. I know everytime I see one of those flowers I'll think of you!

Between traveling for several days and coming home to a half dead router, I've not been online much. After pulling out the old router we figured out why it wasn't working, we had an extremely frayed electrical cord.
