SAHMLOCK's SP:

Thank you soooo much. I know i posted this in the 'ville and on my blogger....but I didnt want to take any chances that you wouldn't see it!!!!! I am so very thankful for your generosity and kindness. The handwritten note, as well, was just the right touch! You are a special person and I am blown away! Thanks soooo much! Have a great weekend.
Too bad the others cant "touch" the wonderful yarns. I have never even seen Pebbles before. The shawl and scarf are absolutely gorgeous. My daughter's fave color is ORANGE...so she is eyeing that yarn and hoping for something from it!

Out of Town for the Weekend

I will be leaving on Saturday morning and not returning until late Sunday night. Where I am going there is no TV, no phone (or cell phones) and absolutely no computers! But there will be lots and lots of food!

You can still contact me, but please patiently wait for a reply until Monday!

I hope you all have a great holiday weekend!

Very thoughtful and generous

All I can say is WOW! My lone stranger pal has really out done herself! My birthday is on Saturday and I just got the NICEST package full of goodies in the mail.

There's Size 30 thread (I've really wanted to try smaller thread), a set of thread hooks (I needed hooks to try smaller thread), I needed bath goodies and perfume (White Musk that smells great on me) and there's a bar of what looks like homemade soap (that smells absolutely wonderful), there's my very favorite Reisen candys (which I opened and dug into already), there were fun birthday goodies of balloons that stand by themselves and blow outs (ha! we are having another couple join us this weekend, you KNOW we are gonna use those out camping and scare all the animals)and she put this all in a beautiful basket with a handmade washcloth.

THANK YOU so much Lone Stranger!

Another Card from My Pal :)

Goodies From My SP

Just look at what my SP sent me! I just love coming home to surprises!!!! I've also received several sweet ecards from her.

Thanks for making my day SP!!!

Thank you Super Secret Bud

Thanks to my Super Secret Bud for the beautiful E-card (she calls herself my Secret Bud, but I think she's Super!)

I feel so 50's suburban housewifeish, I've never seen a purple daisy before. It's kind of like the time we had a 2yo vistor at our house and I asked if she wanted strawberry or grape jelly on her sandwich. Her mother told me she only eats blackberry jelly. I'm beginning to feel like I need to go find a big skirt and some crinolines to go underneath it.

My SP is a gem!

Thank you SP for brightening my days with those lovely ecards! They make me smile, which can only be a good thing!
Alison

I got a fabulus package, from Kiki!

WOOT!

My SP sent me an email to start stalking my mailman.......I will have to go home for lunches now so I can get it as soon as it shows! Thanks!

Thank you Secret Pal!

I just have to thank my secret pal! This has been a rough week for me going through Carpal Tunnel Surgery and not being able to crochet. When I got home from work last night there was a Get Well Card waiting for me from my secret pal with a package of wildflower seeds in it!

We will be moving the beginning of July so we won't be able to plant them where we are now, but my hubby (who's got the green thumb!) will plant them once we move into our new place. I know everytime I see one of those flowers I'll think of you!

Thank you so so much!

One Skein Questions

Thanks Lauren for the links to these questions! I thought I'd post them here for people to cut and paste to their own blogs and then give a link in the comments for us to view.

2. What is your favorite color yarn to knit/crochet with?
3. Have you ever used variegated, or magic, yarns?
4. Do you tend to favor certain fibers when choosing yarns?
5. Do you prefer to work with center-pull or traditionally wound balls of yarn?
6. Have you ever worked with organic yarns or are you interested in trying them?
7. How many and what projects have you made in the last year?
8. Will you be knitting any gifts this year?
9. What is your favorite one skein project?
10. How much yarn do you have in your stash and how do you store it?
11. Do you have a yarn in your stash that you love so much you can never use it or part with it?
12. Do you knit less or differently in the summer?
13. Do you belong to any knitting groups (online or offline)?

Thank you, thank you

Thank you Cant Tellu for the great e-card today. We got a kick out of it (the music brought my 2 chillies running from their TV show!!!). Thanks so much for all of the great questions I enjoyed taking the time to answer them. Sorry to be MIA from this blog, I kind of forgot about it. (I am currently hanging my head in shame.)

Speaking of questions... Has anyone seen the One Skein Secret Pal swap questions? I think they're kind of nifty, I may try to post my answers to them this weekend on my blog. I've run across them on the Crochet by Faye blog and the Crochet me blog. Kind of a neat getting to know you for the group, dontcha think? Anyone else care to join in on answering?

From Karla to her SP!

Thank you for the lame card. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Ok, everyone, I'm not insulting my SP. She sent me an e-card from lamecards.com! Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting It was actually quite adorable with a childlike drawing of a flower and grass and the word flower spelled out with an arrow pointing to the drawn flower. I liked it!

Thank you SP!

E-card Links: Update

I added the links that were given by Frann and Anna. Thank you!

I have found another fun e-card site along the lines of Hipster Cards called LameCards.com.

And if you want to send an e-card of your Known SP's favorite comic strip (or of yours), go to Comic.com.

Friendly Reminder: Contact Your Known SP

If you haven't already contacted your Known SP to introduce yourself anonymously, please do so by this weekend!

Being in contact with your Known SP on a regular basis helps build rapport and is the basis for a successful swapping experience.

If you haven't heard from your Unknown SP by Sunday of the upcoming weekend, please e-mail me and I will send personal (not-so-friendly) reminders to them.

This message will also be posted on the group blog.

~ Lori

I finally made it!

Between traveling for several days and coming home to a half dead router, I've not been online much. After pulling out the old router we figured out why it wasn't working, we had an extremely frayed electrical cord. But all up and running and I have received 3 cards from the lonestranger/crochet pal.
Nice to see you all here!

Send Me Your Links!

I was thinking how it would be extremely useful if we started a collection of links to free e-card sites! That way we can all benefit from mouse-clicking our way to sending greetings to our Known SP's!

All you need to do is leave the link in the comments and I'll post it on the side bar.

I've added a few of my favorites.

A Mother's Day ecard from my unkown secret pal...and it's so cute! I love it! Thank you secret pal...for making my mother's day that much more special!

Help! I Accidentally Revealed Myself!

What to do when best laid plans meet reality!

The stuff that nightmares are made of:

  • You sign your real name to a message to your Known SP!
  • You post a comment on their blog and it posts your real identity!
  • Your e-mail settings post your real name giving you away!

Seasoned SP's can attest to the fact that we've all experienced the dreaded Accidental Reveal.

So what happens next? I can assure you that the fabric of the space-time continuum remains intact and that the world, indeed, does not end, and neither does the fun of the swap!

If you accidentally reveal yourself to your Known SP, maybe they won't notice, so "say nothing, act casual."

If your Unknown SP accidentally reveals themself to you, "say nothing, act casual."

What does "say nothing, act casual" mean, really? What it means is, unless it is blatantly obvious that an Accidental Reveal has occurred, let it slide, which is my personal philosophy. Now, if it is rather obvious, you can both take it in stride. Example being, on the second day of a particular round of SPs, my Unknown SP commented on my blog and accidentally revealed herself. Henceforth she became my "Not-So-Secret Pal" and we joked about it and had a blast.

Have you noticed that commenting on your Known SP's blog can give you away? Yes, this is something of a trap because many comment features on a blog require you to log-in or has a cookie associated with it to remember who you are.

How do you thwart the dastardly commenting trap? With services like Blogger, create an anonymous user account which you will only use for your Known SP's blog. For services like Haloscan comments which use cookies, make sure you erase the automatically inputed information before submitting the comment. Most offer a preview setting to check out what you will post.

How Do I Get Started?

This post is for the 53% of you who are new to being a Secret Pal. I will do my best to give a tutorial on the beginning process. If I overlook something I hope to catch my mistake(s)!

On May 15th when all assignments are finalized, you may make first contact with your Known SP. To do this:

  • You can send them an anonymous e-card or an e-mail. A digression here as there are a few things about e-cards you may want to know.

You will want to use your secret e-mail address as all require a sender's e-mail. Plus, they will ask for your real name. You can simply put "Your Secret Pal" as the real name. Or you can be creative and adopt an identity, like Anon E. Muss, Mystery Pal, etc.

  • If you choose to send an e-mail, make sure that in your settings you have changed your sender's name to your secret name or identity, otherwise it will show up in their Inbox with your real name, and then you'll be secret no more! (Gasp!) Internet-based e-mail accounts are easier to change than using Outlook or Outlook Express, but the idea is still the same. If you need assistance in changing your settings I will help you.

  • Snail mail options for making first contact. You can send a postcard or notecard to their mailing address introducing yourself.

  • The least popular option for making contact is psychic connection because often you give yourself away inadvertantly as it is hard to block your real identity when using mental telepathy. LOL!

You will want to give a basic introduction of yourself, but don't spill the beans about who you are. It is best to say a little bit about yourself so you aren't totally mysterious. Ask questions to find out more about them as this will help you to make a connection. Find commonalities or similar interests, likes and dislikes, etc. That's why I ask you to say what your favorite TV shows are, animals, etc. I did try to match many of you based on that information.

If you have specific questions, just put them in the comments. I will try to answer them, or hopefully some of the seasoned Pals will answer, too (hint, hint).

What This Blog Is For

You can use this blog as you see fit as long as it pertains to Secret Pals. In other words, I will have to bring out my editing powers and remove those posts that aren't on topic, which I'd rather not do because then I feel like a slimey toad.

You can post pictures of what you've received from your Unknown SP here, too. And make announcements like: "I heard from my Unknown SP and she's great!"

You can post your thank-you's for gifts and things received from your Unknown SP.

You will not want to post what you have given to your Known SP because that will spoil the surprise. This seems a bit obvious once it is mentioned. Remember: Think stealth. For the next three months you will have a secret identity and live under a cover of darkness.

You can also ask questions hoping that another more seasoned Secret Pals will answer. We have a number of people who are new to being an SP but are experienced with other swaps. This is a different type of swap and in order for you to have a great time, be sure to ask those stupid questions! I totally understand that there are some aspects to this secret pal thing that are still mysterious to me, and I've been doing them at C'Ville for awhile, plus did something similar with a different group years ago.

I'm thinking of creating a FAQ about being a Secret Pal because there are many repeated questions that come up. So I will be working on that during this round. If you can think of questions that would be helpful to have on the list, please send them to me.

This is your blog. I'm just here to make sure it doesn't turn completely chaotic. So post away and have fun!
